**Freelancer’s Workflow: How Obsidian Helps Me Manage My Writing**
*Everything Offline All at Once*
Being a freelancer, I’m an employee who’s not exactly a team player. I prefer to work independently and I’m not a fan of meetings. This is why I’m always looking for effective ways to stay organized and on top of my work. I write for five different publications and managing relationships with five editors can be a challenge. Over the years, I’ve tried different systems to keep track of my work, from spreadsheets to various apps, but none quite did the trick. That is until I discovered Obsidian a couple of years ago.
**Unearthing the Tool That Changed It All**
Obsidian is more than just a writing application. It’s a “second brain” that stores everything—notes, attachments, and even plugins—as simple text documents in a folder on your computer. This means you can use the application fully offline or sync the documents using the cloud storage service of your choice. What I love about it is that everything is in my control, and it works offline. The extensive plugin ecosystem also allows me to customize it to suit my workflow.
**The Freelancer’s Workflow**
As a writer, my process involves brainstorming, pitching to editors, researching, writing, editing, and invoicing. Obsidian has become an essential tool in each of these steps.
**Brainstorm**
Every article starts with an idea, and I organize these ideas in a dedicated Kanban board on Obsidian. Every card on the board links to a document where I include relevant links, expand on the idea, and note possible angles for the article. When it comes time to pitch these ideas to editors, I drag them to a column for that publication.
**Pitch to Editors and Research**
Once the pitch is approved, I move the card to my “article queue” board and start my research within the same application. Everything is in one place, making it easy to refer back to previous notes or ideas.
**The Writing Process**
When it’s time to start writing, I find all of my compiled notes, ideas, and research in one place, streamlining the writing process. I can move seamlessly from brainstorming and researching to writing and editing, all within Obsidian.
In conclusion, Obsidian has revolutionized how I manage my writing process. It keeps everything organized and accessible, allowing me to focus on the actual work rather than wasting time on unnecessary administrative tasks. If you’re a freelancer or someone who struggles to stay organized, Obsidian might be the tool you need to streamline your workflow.
